Over the last weekend industry leaders converged in Hamilton for the annual Road Transport Forum (RTF) Conference to dig into the changes taking place and make plans to arm themselves for the future. The theme ‘Resilience and Adaptability’ acknowledged the tough year for transport operators and the need to adapt to meet future demand.
Teletrac Navman attended the conference to share its ideas with those on the frontlines of the freight business, and showcase the new technology tools built for the NZ transport industry, such as our electronic Road User Charges (RUC) system: RUC Manager.
Celebrating those going above and beyond
Bright ideas, clever processes and adaption to the ever-changing industry, these are the building blocks of innovation in transport. As a company that strives to create the best GPS Vehicle tracking technology, Teletrac Navman is a big believer in innovation.
The Teletrac Navman Outstanding Contribution to Innovation Award is one of the five New Zealand Road Transport Industry Awards handed out at the RTF conference. The 2017 award was taken out by Waste Management NZ.
Waste Management has one of the country’s largest heavy vehicle fleets with over 800 trucks. A key initiative in Waste Management’s Sustainability Commitment is the transition to an electric vehicle fleet. Each diesel-powered vehicle replaced by an electric truck saves Waste Management 125 litres of diesel per day! Investing in electric vehicles is complemented by their decision to reuse landfills and methane capturing energy parks to generate electricity.
New additions to our vehicle tracking suite
The Teletrac Navman booth was well attended, with people keen to try out some of the newest technology on offer. The booth was positioned right next to iCOS LIVE, a key integration partner.
The new additions to the vehicle tracking suite are specifically developed for the New Zealand market to give operators detailed overviews of their connected sites, fleets and trucks.
Here’s what Teletrac Navman showed off:
- iFace is a portable, shock and water-resistant touchscreen device for drivers. This rugged, detachable in-cab tablet runs specialised tracking applications like SmartJobs and Sentinel. It offers messaging and navigation, document management, pre-trip inspection checklists, and both standard and customised forms. Drivers can upload and send photos, barcodes and signatures to the back office. The iFace docks on a powered cradle and features 8 hours of battery life and dual 5MP cameras.
- SmartJobs is a job management software developed by Transtech. Fully integrated with freight management software from iCOS LIVE, industry leaders in freight tracking, SmartJobs drives efficiency by streamlining end-to-end workflow.
- RUC Manager streamlines the Road User Charges compliance and rebate process. The NZTA approved system combines a dash mounted, electronic distance tracker and licence display with a web based software system. The system automatically purchases and displays licences, and calculates off-road distances to submit RUC refunds direct to NZTA.
