Challenge:

Tradehire, a family-run business operating across greater Auckland, faced the challenge of efficiently managing a busy fleet while providing prompt and reliable service in installing roof edge protection and scaffolding solutions. The company sought a technology solution that would offer real-time visibility into its fleet's location to streamline operations. Additionally, Tradehire aimed to reduce the manual administrative burden associated with purchasing Road User Charges (RUC) licenses and to mitigate the costs incurred from occasional fines when licenses expired.

I love that I can pull out my phone and see exactly where the trucks are. I can see if they’re enroute and how far away they are from site.

- Rod McLean, Operations Manager

Solution:

In 2019, Tradehire implemented Teletrac Navman’s GPS-enabled fleet management solution, including an electronic RUC system, for its six light trucks transporting scaffolding equipment. This technology enabled the back office to quickly check vehicle locations and distances via mobile devices, improving delivery timeliness and crew assignments. It also provided insights into speeding and driver behaviour for health and safety compliance. The team has also set up alerts for after-hours vehicle use to enhance security. On the other hand, the automated RUC license purchasing and display has saved Tradehire time and reduced fines. Throughout the whole process, Teletrac Navman team facilitated the seamless re-installation of GPS hardware in a new truck, ensuring uninterrupted service.

Results:

The implementation of Teletrac Navman has led to several significant benefits for Tradehire:

  1. Improved Fleet Visibility: The operations team gained complete visibility into the fleet's location, allowing for quick coordination of teams and equipment deliveries, enhancing responsiveness to job site challenges.
  2. Streamlined Administration: The electronic RUC system automated license renewals, instant license display, reducing administrative tasks and minimising the risk of fines, thus allowing staff to focus on other responsibilities.
  3. Enhanced Security: Automatic alerts for vehicle movement during off-hours improved security, enabling swift responses to potential theft or unauthorised use.
